This horticultural memoir will amuse and enlighten all gardeners, especially those who love the Brandywine tomato! The author tells his tale of shaping his property into an amazing garden and orchard with all the trials, tribulations, and mishaps that go along with such a venture.

Gardening in the Shade, by the Editors of Horticulture (published by Horticulture Books: $24.99).

The experts at Horticulture magazine present their advice on technique, design, and plant choices for gardening in shade. Woven around exquisite photographs, the text is presented in a form that any beginner or intermediate gardener can understand. My favorite chapter (A Way Through the Woods, written by Gordon Hayward) presents specific steps to take when planning and preparing a woodland path.
