Arboretums
Here is a listing of arboretums in the greater Philadelphia area:
- Chanticleer Garden – A 47 acre estate located in Wayne, PA featuring a robust variety of plants from woody herbaceous to tropical. It "has been called the most romantic, imaginative, and exciting public garden in America".
- Jenkins Arboretum – A 46 acre property located in Devon, PA that has been designated as a "public park, arboretum, and wildlife sanctuary for the study of arboriculture, horticulture, and wildlife for educational and scientific purposes".
- Longwood Gardens – Located in Kennett Square, PA, Longwood Gardens resides on 1,050 acres with 20 indoor and 20 outdoor garden areas. They offer numerous programs and events throughout the year.
- Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania – 92-acre, Victorian landscape garden of winding paths, streams, flowers and special garden areas, located in Philadelphia.
- Mt. Cuba Center – A non-profit horticultural institution in northern Delaware located on nearly 600 acres. They focus on "the study, conservation, and appreciation of plants native to the Appalachian Piedmont Region through garden display, education, and research."
- Scott Arboretum – Located on the campus of Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA, the Scott Arboretum encompasses more than 300 acres and features over 4,000 kinds of ornamental plants.
